Brian Kane is Professor at the Department of Music at Yale University.
His scholarly work is interdisciplinary, located in the intersection of music theory, composition, and philosophy. Central themes in his research are histories and theories of listening. In his book “Sound Unseen: Acousmatic Sound in Theory and Practice” (OUP, 2014), he presents a theory of sound perception, building upon the mode of hearing without seeing.
Brian Kane is a Visiting Fellow in May 2019 upon invitation from Dr. Magdalena Zorn (CAS Junior Researcher in Residence 2019). On 23 May, they both will conduct a workshop on "Acousmatic Sound. Separating Eye and Ear in Music History".
